ORDER "INTO THE HILLSIDE" BY CASSETTES WON'T LISTEN

Whole Wheat

-

What if you took the lo-fi acoustic sounds of Daniel Johnston, Elevator to Hell, Eric's Trip and Neutral Milk Hotel and blended it with originally clever and sometimes heart breaking lyrics?

What if you were able to get those high school summers back, those nights sitting on the soccer field with Jenny from science class, drinking your coke slurpee while passing a joint filled with dirt weed?

From the label that brought you Cassettes Won't Listen, NewYork based Dope Lotus Records brings you Whole Wheat. Strapped with his acoustic guitar, his plethora of vintage organs, and a cassette multi-track recorder. His sound has been described as "if Lou Barlow realized that life wasn't always bad". Whole Wheat brings his lo-fidelity recordings to a culture that is bombarded with disgustingly polished pop music. His songs describe a broken heart and memories of what life was when we all were happy.

Whole Wheat got his start in Toms River, NJ as songwriter for his first band, Generic . As the members disbanded Whole Wheat decided to keep his cassette 8-track around and began writing songs about his current situations Situations ranging from his hatred for frat boys, the police, and his love for being in love but never achieving it.

For those who missed his energetic and critically acclaimed live show at Piano'sNYC, Whole Wheat will be touring soon. His latest shows have been with The Action News, Whole Wheat's backing band made up of old high school friends including ex-Generic member, Keith Cheek. Be on the look out for his live album recorded in Asbury Park, NJ at The Saint, a legendary rock club who's seen the likes of Frank Black and Nada Surf.

Be on the look out for Whole Wheat's new track on the upcoming Dope Lotus Fall Sampler (free download!) coming this September to dopelotus.com.
