Thimali
Thimali Kodikara is not just a vocalist yet her voice appeared like fine-tuned magic. The kind you thought you'd lost forever but instead find in the back pocket of your best jeans because you haven't worn them all summer.
Thimali is a resident Brooklynite, but a born and raised Londoner. Despite a degree at the acclaimed Central St. Martins College of Art, music was undoubtedly her primary creative outlet. Teaming with Finlay Crowther of eventual Beezkat fame, they gained a residency at Soho's Heavenly Social as Asoka. Playing shows supported by Andy Smith of Portishead, they toured the London circuit for six years including The Jazz Cafe, Madame Jo Jo's & Notting Hill Arts Club. Carbon Imprints made an international release of Asoka's 'Under A Sheltered Sky', produced by Justin Willock of Ninja Tune's The Herbaliser. The release spurred a shining feature in the UK's R&B magazine.
Since moving to New York, Thimali has collaborated on recordings by Dragons Of Zynth, The Transformers, Scotty Karate & Awesome Color's Derek Stanton. More recently touring the East coast of the US with Cassettes Wont Listen.
Thimali's past was a mess of drum n' bass clubs in the late 90's, and more presently the righteous Brooklyn noise music scene. The future looks like experimental art beats for Thimali- both as a solo project, and coupled with lead vocals for the unfathomable Eka.
